In Udaipur district, Rajasthan, a large crowd gathered outside a police station, demanding immediate action against a man accused of raping an eight-year-old girl. The protest escalated into chaos, with demonstrators vandalizing public buses and damaging police and district administration vehicles.
As tensions heightened, additional police forces from three nearby stations were called in to restore order, as reported by local media.
According to police statements, the incident occurred on Sunday evening around 7:30 PM when the girl went to a field. The accused allegedly lured her into nearby bushes, where he assaulted her and threatened her to remain silent. Despite this, the girl returned home and informed her parents, who then took her to the police station, leading to her hospitalization.
The suspect, identified as Ramlal, fled the scene but was apprehended on Monday after police utilized CCTV footage to track him down. He has been charged under the POCSO Act.
On Monday morning, a significant number of villagers gathered at the police station, demanding strict measures against the accused. Initially, discussions were calm until a rumor spread that the victim had died during treatment, inciting the crowd's anger. This led to stone-pelting directed at the police. Authorities reported the arrest of 38 individuals for rioting and violence, stating that the situation has since been brought under control.
